The quantity of material needed for coverage can be determined by computing the square footage of the area. Multiply the length of the area by the width of the area to get square footage.
To determine how many tons of material will be needed first determine depth desired and then divide the square footage of the area based on the coverage chart below.
Crushed Granite –
1 ton of rock will cover approximately:
100 sq. ft. 2" deep
80 sq. ft. 3" deep
60 sq. ft. 4" deep
40 sq. ft. 6" deep
Rip Rap –
1"-4" rock will cover approximately:
80 sq. ft. per ton
3"-8" rock will cover approximately:
65 - 75 sq. ft. per ton
Length x Width = Square Footage
15 feet x 25 feet = 375 sq feet
To calculate tonnage required for coverage at 2 inches deep, divide the area square footage by 100.
375 sq. ft./ 100 sq. ft. = 3.75 Tons of material
To ensure you have enough material for coverage, in this case, we would suggest your order 4 tons of material.
This calculation would be done by detemining the square footage of the long and the short sides of the "L" and adding them together.
18 feet x 40 feet = 720 sq feet
10 feet x 40 feet = 400 sq feet
400 sq ft + 720 sq ft = 1, 120 sq feet
To calculate tonnage required for coverage at 2 inches deep, divide the area square footage by 100.
1,1200 sq. ft. / 100 sq. ft. = 11.20 Tons of material
In this case we would suggest your order 11 tons of material.
